Origin Story

The Austrian Gold Philharmonics debuted in 1989 as a tribute to the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. By 1990, it was already the best-selling bullion coin in Europe and second best in the world to the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf.

Design

  • Heads: The obverse design features the Great Organ located in the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna.
  • Tails: On the reverse, the Austrian Gold Philharmonic has cellos, violins, a bassoon, a harp, the Viennese horn, and a stringed bass as the central focus.
